VP Operations & Manufacturing Excellence
Yanmar Compact Equipment North America designs, manufactures and supports a complete range of compact equipment including compact track loaders, mini excavators, wheel loaders and construction equipment for use in such markets as construction, landscaping, utility, land management and agriculture.
The products are sold primarily through a third party, independent dealer network.
Yanmar Compact Equipment North America has an immediate opening for a VP of Operations & Manufacturing Excellence.
This position will be based in Grand Rapids, MN.
Overview The VP Operations & Manufacturing Excellence drives the success of YCENA through developing and owning the Operations and Manufacturing Strategy to fuel our growth, manage costs and investments while providing daily execution guidance to our plant operations team to meet dealer and end-consumer needs.
The VP Operations & Manufacturing Excellence leads overall plant objectives by setting production performance standards and aligning leadership to achieve those standards - lives and breathes employee engagement- thrives on change management and embodies our mantra of Building with You.
Responsible for the execution of all manufacturing operations including Production/Assembly, Planning, Tactical Purchasing, Quality Control, Maintenance, Paint, Weld, Fabrication, Safety, Whole Good Storage and Logistics (US and Export), Receiving / Materials Controls and Warehouse operations - all in conformance with YCENA policies and all applicable regulatory and legal requirements.
Responsible for coordination and communication of the operations forecast - including the identification of key financial operating risks and potential offsets.
Owns operational cost down and efficiency improvement.
Supports all strategic efforts to generate new sales and maintain the existing customer base.
Key Responsibilities and Major Tasks Define Regional Manufacturing strategy to maximize volumes and optimize costs, identifying capability gaps and capacity constraints; proposing solutions and investments; phasing of capabilities to address the gaps in a stepwise manner.
Represent the Grand Rapids plant within the Global Compact Equipment (CE) OPEX Council, ensuring the regional manufacturing capabilities are aligned to the Global strategy whilst also driving the development of the Global Manufacturing Strategy Operate in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with an ability to prioritize and drive actions to closure Drive insertion of technology / systems / processes to upgrade manufacturing and material management Develop advantaged manufacturing capabilities that enable short- and long-term business priorities and objectives Evolve the operational vision/strategy and establish organizational direction and focus Drive results by fostering creativity and accountability in a performance-oriented culture Develop and coach direct reports to create bench strength to support our growth Execute multiple, simultaneous high-impact initiatives to achieve overall goals Exercise agility in solving problems with the ability to quickly identify profitable opportunities, diagnose errors, prioritize actions, and optimize systems and processes Coach and guide department managers in the development of labor usage strategies to better utilize resources- reacting to changes in production demands and deadlines.
Effectively communicate up and down to ensure alignment on YCENA policies, procedures, and strategies.
Ensure personnel adherence to YCENA policies, safety standards, and manufacturing practices Actively champion all continuous improvement efforts throughout the plant.
Collaborate with YCENA corporate functions like Strategy and Finance along with the YCENA executive leadership team to develop annual operating budget, along with 5 and 10-year strategic vision.
Partners with the Human Resources Department to develop and drive the 3-5 year people plan while supporting policy development, address employee grievances, employee development, employee engagement and retention Work with Engineering and Maintenance departments to develop strategies to reduce production equipment downtime due to equipment failures.
Actively works with Continuous Improvement team, Manufacturing Engineering, and Maintenance Manager on equipment process flows, optimization of plant layouts, coordination of shutdowns and startups due to new production lines and equipment installation.
Support the new product development team in developing of new products processes / work instructions, support pre-productionruns, participate in design for manufacturing, provide costing of labor and scrap standards for new products.
Analyze manufacturing variances in material / BOM costs and labor usage and work with operations management team to implement strategies to reduce them.
Oversees the preparation of operational schedules and manufacturing activities to ensure that production and quality of products meet specifications.
Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives such as labor reduction, waste reduction, and reduction of indirect cost.

Requirements: Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.
Preferably in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Operations Minimum 10+ years of leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
Previous Senior/Executive Operational Leadership experience preferred Experience in machine manufacturing or industrial manufacturing industry preferred.
Demonstrated leadership of safety initiatives that drive a zero injury culture Track record of understanding and applying continuous improvement principles and practices including Lean Manufacturing- TPM- and/or Lean Six Sigma Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Experience influencing and working with cross functional teams (Global Experience Preferred) Experience building & enabling high performing teams delivering exceptional results on a consistent basis Growth and continuous learning and development mindset Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and influence across all levels of employees
